This has nothing to do with "gay ads" or anything. JCP (as I've called it forever) has been struggling for years. They are trying new things to keep going and it may not work or be enough, including the gay ads people are so worked up over. There are still a couple things I can get there that I can't get anywhere else for the price or quality but overall the quality and selection isn't what it used to be. It's a familiar story.
I don't have any stock in JC Penny and most people I know, don't care about these chain retailers and their new "image". The junk sold there can be purchased at any of their clones. Their executives, including the one who left, are well padded, either way.
Then good for you. That doesn't mean that nobody cares. I guess you don't care if every stock goes to sheet and you have to knit your own clothes?? Some do.

I have a feeling that if their stocks were going up, you'd say it was because of the gay ads.

No I wouldn't. I'd say it was because of their new price structure. I personally just bought about a dozen pairs of pants (jeans and crop pants for summer) for between $8 and $20 apeice. I'm astounded at the deals.
But I don't pay attention to ad's or who's gay like some folks seem to. I know a few posters here are getting tingly thinking gayness is driving JCP out of business and that's ok with me. They have to get their kicks somehow.
"After the closing bell, the department-store operator announced President Michael Francis was leaving, effective today, after only eight months on the job. Shares dropped 6.5% in after-hours trading to $22.75 in after-hours trading. The stock is down nearly 50% since early February.
J.C. Penney said CEO Ron Johnson, a former Apple and Target executive, would oversee the company’s marketing and merchandising functions.
Francis was Target’s top marketing executive for 10 years before he left last fall to take the position with J.C. Penney. He was one of Johnson’s first picks to help him run the company, and was with him on stage in January when the two unveiled Penney’s new sales pitch.
“The sudden nature of the departure underscores, in our opinion, the big-time mistakes JC Penney has made in articulating [its] new image,” said Brian Sozzi, an analyst at NBG Productions.
Much has changed in a short amount of time. Last month, J.C. Penney dropped a tape bomb by reporting a quarterly loss, suspending its dividend to save cash and predicting it wouldn’t meet its previous annual earnings targets."
Francis is a sacrifice to save Johnson's butt. Johnson set the present course JCP is sailing. Now that its not working, he threw the helmsman overboard. Typical....
They won't go out of business. Aren't they too big to fail? Plus they are now catering to the chosen group of the ONE. A bailout should be in order when bammer appoints one of his cronies to head the company soon most likely.

Was Montgomery Wards? Mervyns?
Or do you just need an excuse to write your crapola.

I agree! I hadn't been there in a long time but went in about a month ago and every thing was so spread out it already looked like they were going out of business. The quality of clothes was pretty poor from what I looked at and I was somewhat surprised.

I like what JCP was doing in its merchandsing and marketing, but ya got to admit they stuck their thumb in the eye of their core shopper. Most times I used to go in a Penny's I was one of the few people their not using a AARP discount. That's not the group Ellen or 2 dads is going to appeal to. They may be trying to attract new, younger customers, but don't tick off your existing ones while you do it. Particulary in the middle of a huge brand repositioning.

Interesting that this happens right after they unveil the new Gay Fathers day ad....
