On Wednesday, June 13, members of the Occupy movement protested against a conference dedicated to combatting child sex trafficking — thus, the Occupiers in essence were coming out in favor of one of society’s most loathsome moral crimes.
The protesters mostly were members of Occupy Oakland Patriarchy, a group within the overall Occupy movement tasked with overthrowing our civilization’s “patriarchy.”
The conference which so infuriated them was called HEAT Watch, short for the National Human Exploitation And Trafficking Watch Conference.
They do make one good point: the police and courts are often unfair towards victims of sex trafficking. Federal laws on it are pretty good but many state laws are not up to par with the federal laws. Prostitutes often get a harsher sentence than the johns. There definitely needs to be a change in how we deal with it. BUT, I believe these NGOs (having met representatives from several human trafficking-related NGOs) are doing a lot more to fix it than these loudmouthed occupunks.

First they were against the 1% of rich people who worked their butts off to get rich in the first place, then they didn't think it was fair they had to pay off their student loan debt and wanted it all 'forgiven', now all of a sudden they're protesting sex trafficking

Sorry, I don't just bite on ridiculous claims. I ask myself why someone who take an apparently absurd political position and look into it. I don't think "Citizens for a Better America" and "The Concerned Citizens of America" would agree on anything other than comforting euphemisms for their political fronts.
Apparently their beef is that its too narrowly focused and ignores all the ills of human trafficking including slave labor in general. In other words is a political disagreement. What a surprise.....
Clearly, human trafficking is a heinous practice, but the perpetual focus on sex is uncritically sensationalist, and its shock value is exploited by anti-sex-trafficking groups present at the HEAT conference in pursuit of their own moralizing, often religious, agendas. Forced labour and human trafficking is a problem not only in the sex industry, but in all forms of work. Many people are forced to migrate, to labour clandestinely, or to engage in forms of labour they might otherwise never agree to. Often this means performing dangerous or damaging physical labor. The problem of human trafficking includes people who work in construction, hospitality, or agriculture, who also find themselves at the mercy of rings of exploitation; but the organizers of the HEAT conference are silent about these forms of forced labour.

No doubt many participants in H.E.A.T have positive intentions, but this conference is about arrests, convictions, imprisonment, and deportation– in short, it is about refining the state’s techniques of repression, not healing victims of trafficking or empowering sex workers. H.E.A.T. will only lead to greater policing of communities; it will do little to address the conditions that cause people to engage in exploitative sex work, such as poverty, lack of access to education, no hope of a future outside of the black market, or the lack of public assistance.
And in truth I have no doubt that Wall Street in their thievery has added to the roles of sex workers, not to mention the frequent uses of their services by Wall Street. The HEAT solution appears to offend in the context of being far too much as matter of law enforcement.
