Just keeps getting more and more wonderful.........unless of course your going to be the one paying for it. Of course in the minds of the loons everything is free.

The state’s auditor said today despite its critical report last year on the high-speed rail project, the rail authority’s “funding situation has become increasingly risky and the authority’s weak oversight persists.”
Other than that, full-speed ahead. Well, actually not exactly full-speed ahead.
“The cost estimates for phase one increased to between $98.1 billion and $117.6 billion—of which approximately $12.5 billion has been secured,” the auditor says.
Remember when the cost was about $35 billion? Then about $45 billion? Then about $98 billion? And now, the auditor says it’s up to $117 billion? All in the space of about three years, and not an inch of track has been put down yet.
What could go wrong dragging out this thing another three years? Oh wait. They plan to drag it out to 2034. But then there was the time only three years ago when they planned to drag it out only to 2020.
What could go wrong?
And Gov. Jerry Brown wants full-speed ahead. Are these people nuts?"

I'm surprised this train project hasn't derailed yet. There isn't any coal to run it.

Yes.

I worry less about those people, than about the people who elected them.

Twice.

I really could not care less, but it's obviously important to you since you spent so much time whining about it.

Yep, HSR..what a terrible idea. Keep driving oversized, gas guzzling vehicles, keep polluting the atmosphere and keep sitting in wonderful traffic jams surrounded by other motorists who look like they are just about ready to snap.

california needs high speed rail, and the investment needs to occur at the state level ... but maybe they forgot they are broke, overtaxed, and in a recession? (excuse me, "weak recovery.")

Hm, if I remember correctly, the Federal Government spends roughly $45 billion a year on road maintenance. Add to that the expenditure on a state level and the number is quite staggering.

Yet, that's perfectly alright even though it is clear that the system is no longer viable with the increase in population nationwide.

Oh no, we keep spending for the same old crap without ever considering an investment in the future.

Government spending is not investment. But hey don't stop belivin.

If it were an idea with merit,a private sector entity would take it on (then, it might be called an investment)
