According to the past 60 years of research in this field, most men who molest young boys typically have an aversion to adult males and are either sexually attracted to adult females (regressed pedophiles) or not attracted to any adults of either gender, only to children (fixated pedophile). It's only rarely that a male who has an adult homosexual sexual orientation, sexually molests young boys.

No. There are different types of 'pedophiles'. A minority of 'pedophiles' (it varies between 7% and 30% over the large range of studies) don't have an adult sexual orientation at all. The rest do.
If anyone hasn't heard of the terms 'fixated' or 'exclusive' pedophiles and 'regressed' or 'non-exclusive' pedophiles, then they haven't done any research at all on the topic.
Or is it simply because even pedophiles want to have a normal socially approved life or a cover so they get married, have kids etc. Wasnt that a case with many gays even 50 years ago?

Then it is just as obvious as it can be that they really are NOT homosexuals. Instead they are bisexuals. We would be surprised by the number of bisexuals in society. There is no doubt more of them than there are homosexuals. F@g hags would surely agree. They delight how half, or more, of the young "gay" men want to have sex with them.

A pedophile is just a person who preys on people weak enough for them to control, the chosen gender is their gender of preference. In this pervert's case, he was a homosexual, who was too cowardly to act out his sexual desires of domination on adults.
To answer your question, you do not have sex with boys unless you prefer that gender, or at the minimum are not sexually aroused by that gender.
Cite all the studies you like, a man who molests boys is a homosexual and/or a bisexual.
He had teen boy victims, too, though, didn't he? Some say boys are particularly attractive to pedophiles once their hormones start coming online.
That would depend on the individual and what age they are fixated on. Some like four year olds. Some like fourteen year olds. Neither are adults. Much has to do with what caused them to become pedophiles and identify with children over adults, and what age the abuse occured. Abuse is usually somewhere at the core, but does not have to be sexual.
This does NOT believe I think they are 'excused', by the way. A moral compass exists, and though who abused them shares the responsibility they too have the responsibility of NOT acting on their impulses, and finding help before there is anything to prosecute.
Grooming is also a part of the process, and access in a trusted setting is necessary so boys are more available, and far far less likely to tell than girls because of the extreme shame placed upon them as part of the grooming by their abuser.
