I have always worked for a living too, so please hear me out. You are 32 and in good health...for now. It appears you are also omniscient and omnipotent. You just know you are never going to get sick or have an accident. So, if your crystal ball ever fails you and you get a kidney stone, a gallbladder attack, etc. you are going to take care of whatever by yourself, right? Sorry, but I find that hard to believe. I think if something like that ever happened to you, you'd head to the nearest ER screaming. So, you'll probably want to get health insurance then. That's like trying to get auto insurance on a car after it's been in a crash. Brilliant. Reminds me of an old man who when asked if he had a living will got miffed and said to me "No, I'm not dead yet". Lord, have mercy.
ER visits are expensive, but they don't turn people away. Meanwhile, those of us who work for a living get to pay for all the irresponsible ones who use the ER, but don't want to get health insurance or "don't have the money" to pay.
In a way, I agree with you: people who feel that they should be free of having to get health insurance should be allowed to do so, but on one condition: when you get sick and want medical treatment right away, then you should have to pay cash upfront. And that includes going to the ER. That's right: 5k, 10k, 20k for starters. No ifs, ands or buts.
Seriously! I'm not old and I had a kidney stone....and ouch. If I didn't have insurance and I had to come up with cash up front at 12 midnight I would be spending quite a bit of time in pain before I could secure enough credit to get out of pain and even an hour feels like forever with kidney stones. My appendix also was an unexpected gift as well. I'm very healthy other than that, but, you just never know...
As I said in another thread, my good friend has always been denied health insurance because of preexisting health issues. This is wonderful news for her and those like her.
But conservatives will tell you ObamaCare is a very, very, horrible law.
the horror stories from other socialist healthcare and treatment of the old
Healthcare will turn into a California DMV. I cant tell you how many times I've walked out of a DMV in California. Oh, look how many Canadians come to the US for healthcare.
No good will come from this. None. Except to keep enabling the moochers.
No, as American medical care goes up to yet worse unaffordable levels, Canadians will jet off to India and Thailand and elsewhere to get their medical care, like surgeries, for one half or less the cost in the USA. And many Americans will be joining them.
Well people do have to realise that i the end they will have to give up thinsg to pay the tax.The tax will either comethru direct or indirect. Anyone thinkig that componaies are goi gto not shift the cost back are kiddig themselves. Some may even pay with fewer jobs ebcause it raises the cost of a employeee. We don't need to kid outselfs on it beig a tax eve without supreme court telliing us so.QWill it be expensive ;well of course since ist a one size fits all plan to cover what evryone might need. Its kind of like differnce i buy a car that suits your needs and one suiting someone who want all options.
And those who can't afford medical care, the government will subsidize the cost of health insurance, all the way up to $44,000 a year for individuals. Companies with over 50 employees will be required to provide health insurance to their employees - people before profit$ is never a bad thing.
In short, this bill is a landmark piece of legislation that will help pave the way to a more humane, prosperous and equitable future for this great country.
Oh goody, I just love hearing fairy tale, and they all lived happily ever after stories... Too bad that ain't always the way it works in the real world. What happens when that business with 55 employes decides it's time to unload some "dead weight"? What happens when the business with 98 employees decides to split up into two entities? What happens in the case of a large company that relies heavily on temp workers who are not actually employees?
And let us peer into a history book for some reminders of how good the government is at looking out for our best interests.... As my dad always said, the worst line you can ever hear is "I am the government and I am here to help"... I think we are all in for a world of suck in the not too distant future. Go ahead, pile all the burden on the businesses in America, see how that works out for ya...
But conservatives will tell you ObamaCare is a very, very, horrible law.
Nobody said the current system is fair. What needs to be addressed are the obnoxious costs of health care and health insurance in this country. You think socialized medicine is going to address any of this? As usual, no one is paying any attention to the REAL problem. Try getting rid of the free loading illegal immigrants that flood the ER, and you might make a dent in the problem. Don't expect Obozo, Mittens, or any other puppet to do any of that though. That would make too much sense...
Round and round we go in this perpetual flush of the toilet...
I do not believe you. I live in BC, and our health care is world class...You would be hard pressed to find any BC resident that has anything negative to say about our health care.
Then why do so many Americans insist that American hospitals and clinics close to the border are flooded with Canadians desperate for medical treatment?
"Socialized medicine could easily bring us to the vaunted medical status of the Soviet Union: everyone has the right to free medical care, but there is, in effect, no medicine and no care."
I'm sure you've got that just laying around every year...
