What is it with this control freak Bloomberg who after banning big gulp soda cups, trans fat and salt he now is going after infant formula. That's right, Nanny Bloomberg thinks he has the authority to tell women when to pull a tit out to suckle their child!

According to the Post, Bloomberg is actually pushing hospitals to keep their baby formulas “behind locked doors” so that new mothers will be more likely to breastfeed. Participating hospitals will begin on September 3rd.

Like Bloomberg’s other regulations, the breast milk policy bears a resemblance to Cass Sunstein’s “nudge” theory. The Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (also known as the “Regulatory Czar“), Sunstein has long-advocated “nudging” Americans in the direction they really ought to go, by defining their choices and making the less desirable ones more inconvenient.
In light of his bans I wonder if large breasted women will be charged with violating his ban on big gulp in regard to their infants.
*LOL* I was actually trying to think along that line but couldn't come up with anything. Too tired. The "big gulp" is definitely taking it in the right (aka wrong and hence funny) direction.
Maybe he should propose a lawful silence from any NYC billionaire-politician who feels the OCD itch to micro-manage all aspects of the citizen's lives whose mayoralty he purchased? Of course, Bloomberg paid for a later deferment from the NYC Council for an extra term and one can only wonder what this moneyed despot will proclaim next to feel like a proper & right governess.
The "nudge", making things inconvenient so people do something else instead. Only there are reasons women don't breastfeed and nudging isn't going to change those reasons. It does sound like a huge hassle for the hospital staff though. More paperwork and procedure. I hope this doesn't get pushed, I'd hate seeing formula become RX only or something.
Whats funny is that formula theft from the super market is at an all time high. Partly to pay for drugs, partly because people just can't afford it, and rather then breastfeed, they are stealing.
