Furthermore, this is about wealth. Even those with very moderate means of income can accumulate $1 million or more in wealth.
From the NYT, about millionaires...
Quote:
* Only 19 percent receive any income or wealth of any kind from a trust fund or an estate.
* Fewer than 20 percent inherited 10 percent or more of their wealth.
* More than half never received as much as $1 in inheritance.
* Nearly half never received any college tuition from their parents or other relatives.
The lesson? It's what you do with what you have, NOT how high your income is. A highly paid executive can easily mismanage their financial affairs into bankruptcy. Likewise, a middle class earner can become a millionaire. It's all about making informed life and financial choices.
I like things the way they are ( or used to be ) Those who work hard and play smart win the medal. Those who refuse to try to do either reap the rewards of what they didnt do , and that is nothing.
so every rich person gets up early and every poor person sits on their ass all day , blowing all their money
Given the extreme income inequality we have now and how the country has regressed since Reagan, I'm working to get Democrats elected who will reverse this anti-democratic, pro-poverty situation.
Friend, why wait for elected representatives to do what you can do yourself? Have you seen income inequality up close? By that I mean do you personally know of someone who has less than you do? That's income inequality. No one is stopping you from doing something about it. Go ahead, share your wealth with someone close to hand. You know what they say: Think globally, act locally.

Part of the problem, and the reason why many people are so unaware of what the situation is here in terms of inequality is that in the US it is just about impossible to find straight, honest news without an angle of some type. We have right wing news (FOX), left wing news (MSNBC), and TV networks owned by corporations that don't report any news that could reflect badly on their particular corporate owner (The Big Three). We mostly get soundbites, teasers, blurbs about sex and celebrities, and "heartwarming" stories instead of news (CNN). If it's not entertaining, tear-jerking, or titillating, we don't get to hear about it. You have to be something of a news nerd and do a ton of research to have an even halfway realistic idea of what is going on here, and the majority of people just trying to survive aren't going to have the time or inclination to go to that much trouble. Ironically, it seems like the only way out of this "bubble" of having no idea what's going on in my own country is to read international news media on the Internet, watch news from all over the world, etc.

Won't ever happen.
They're all talk and no action. They're entirely disingenuous and insincere in their beliefs. They won't part with their own money to "fairly" redistribute it equitably to those they know and see locally who have less than they do.

What exactly is going on that people are not aware of?

The threads on how little those like Gore, Biden and Obama give in charity proves that. As a country we give far and away more to charity than any other country. The thing that makes a certain segment of people upset about this is when you give your own money away you get to pick who it goes to. They want to pick who gets your money.

It's going to take the election of more Democrats to move the country to a healthier economic status. Obama has done a fair job given the economic crap he was left by the Republicans. If the House can be retaken and more Democratic senators elected, things will improve even more. Forward!
