I purposefully did not write in the thread title "Could a Person . . ." because I don't think that a woman as heavy as Christie would stand a chance in hell of being elected President. But does Christie's weight offer a big obstacle (no pun intended) to him being a viable candidate for president in the future?

I doubt he'd fall through the White House floor, if that is what you're suggesting.

I know what you're saying here, yet I just have to point out that I think a man as overweight as Christie just may not be able to physically survive the pace and intensity of a Presidential campaign.

Honestly? Yes, I think he could get elected president and that speech he's giving right at this moment is electrifying. He's got a personality and straight-forwardness that overcomes his looks. Plus people don't judge fat men in the same way they judge fat women. He's actually running right at this moment. He knows that Romney isn't going to win and he's setting himself up for 2016. And he's got 4 years to work on his weight. But like with McCain, the VP would be very important and would have to be picked with greater care than Romney did.

You asked if they anyone as overweight as Christie could be elected President.

It has happened before, and it could happen again. Just sayin'

But you are right, a man being "big" was once seen as a sign of health.

No chance. I suspect he'll undergo some kind of medical procedure before I decides to run.
