I think Democrats do want UHC. 15 million is a lot less than 50 currently not covered, that would be a great feat for this country.

drunk?

I'm drinking casually myself and I believed I had dyslexia or something for a minute reading this. But I proposed UHC in a similar thread a few days ago because it could eliminate Medicare as well. Sadly it won't happen soon though in our nation..

There should be universal health care here rather than Obamacare. But it doesn't seem likely to happen in the foreseeable future.

Besides illegals are getting free care now.
Or rather, illegals are getting healthcare paid for by the US taxpayer. Nothing's free. UHC and comprehensive immigration reform would be a major step towards alleviating the strain on the system.

Just wanted to point out that Universal Health Care does not necessarily mean an NHS or Canada-style system.

Some nations use insurance based health care to deliver UHC. Some administer it through employers, some even use for-profit insurance. Some have a mini-NHS type system for preventive medicine and catastrophic illnesses, and insurance does the rest.

There is a lot of models out there, and some have been tuned for half a century to eliminate problems. It may be time to engage in a bit of what businesses call competitive intelligence.

I don't feel that Obamacare was step toward UHC, but rather that it was a last ditch effort to get some sort of health care reform passed. Originally it was touted as being a single payer system, but once the lobbyists got involved that went by the wayside fast. Considering that health care reform has been considered untouchable legislation for so long, and the huge disappointment that is the PPACA, I feel it will be a long time before any politician even considers bringing up the topic again. Therefore, what could have been UHC, or at least a decent Single Payer System, has turned into a 900 page travesty of a law that is going to hurt everyone involved (other than the insurance companies), and we're stuck with it for the foreseeable future.

Then why the hell did you spend the last few years telling everyone who opposed Obamacare that we were wrong?

Obamacare hasn't even come to full implementation and already you're ditching it for something else, something better.
We still have another year to go before it blows up in our face and I think it will based on how the high risk pools are doing after one year. You think our debt is bad now..just wait until those pools start operating and paying out claims.

The Dems had their chance in 2009/2010. I don't see any change happening with the current setup in DC.
