The House should pass what it wants and pass it on to the Senate.
Let Reid be the roadblock.

Not having read this thread.........Obama ran on the platform of letting the taxes expire for the top percent while keeping them for the middle class. If we go over the fiscal cliff it won't be his fault. He was very clear in his reelection about the top paying their fair share.

Good luck with that. Even Conservative Breitbart says the following:

"...A full 45% of respondents said they would blame Congressional Republicans – even though the Democrats control the Senate – while just 34% would blame President Obama...

...Poll numbers like this could be the reason that Republicans are looking to cave on tax increases, or ending tax deductions...

... Of course, it’s the American public that keeps electing these spoiled children. And Congressional Republicans should be blamed for the fiscal cliff, given that they approved the sequester deal in 2011 in order to kick the can past the next election cycle, knowing full well that Obama’s mandatory defense cuts would force them into the position of raising taxes.

Republicans have done such a poor job of informing the public about why taxes shouldn’t be increased that even Republicans, by a margin of 52%-44%, say they want both spending cuts and tax increases. An unbelievable 56% of Americans say they want high taxes on higher income earners, despite the fact that higher income earners pay a vastly disproportionate share of all tax revenue."

Poll: More Americans Blame Republicans For Fiscal Cliff Impasse

Let the GOP take us over the cliff - and then WAIT and see WHO is held accountable. The GOP will be handing the House to the Democrats in the next election.

As I've said all along - Obama holds all the cards on this issue - and he has almost NOTHING to loose so he's pretty likely to stand his ground.

Wow, and just a short time ago it was democrats blaming republicans for playing politics by sacrificing the country and its credit rating. All along it was actually the democrats.

The only thing your post points to is how stupid and gullible people are.

You all should be a shamed of yourselves.

If people understood how the tax code works then this would not be an issue, meaning that they would not go along with Obama's idea. At first only the rich paid taxes but that soon changed to include the middle class.

The gov is unable to provide enough jobs and housing so it uses private sector to do it. Government realized that tax deductions encouraged people to act in a certain ways so the 95% of the tax code is written to give incentive to people who invest in business and real estate which in turn stimulates the economy.

By wanting to increase taxes on the rich (people who will take risks to earn money), Obama is reducing the incentive therefor slower economy (harder to find a good paying job).

Not really. The Presidents' approach is the RIGHT thing. If the GOP holds it all up for those tax cuts for the wealthy, they're doing WRONG and will be punished by the voters for it. Polls have shown what the voters want - and it does NOT include extending the tax cuts for the wealthy.

All that has to happen NOW is that the government develops a plan and BEGINS the process - and it BEGINS with tax rates on the top 2 percent going back to what they were before Bush and government programs starting to be cut.

The debt is NOT an insurmountable problem - difficult to be sure, but not insurmountable. After all, as a percentage of the total economy, it's been higher than it is today (in 1944/1945).

I agree. Both Republicans and Democrats needs to make concessions. No more filibusters!

The rich need to pay more in taxes.

What should be cut? I think the age to qualify for SS needs to be raised to 70. After all, when it was implemented, no one expected so many people to live much beyond 65. Now people are regularly getting SS for more than 20 years. No wonder SS is going broke.

What else should be cut?

Indeed. Had other items increased in cost the way that healthcare has, a dozen eggs would cost $55, a gallon of milk $48, and a dozen oranges $134.

US Healthcare Costs - Where is the money going?
