Highspeed rail in my opinion is a very large waste of tax payer dollars.
I have driven across country several times now, not very convenient. Flying was much more convenient. Also last time I checked it is illegal to drive 200mph, if we had high speed rail going at that speed connecting our cities then rail would be more convenient than driving.

Just put adaptors on cars so that they can run on the same electric slot as the trains.

Get on, get off, wherever.

Who is "we"?
Now if private money wants to build a system, I'm all for it.

The same "we" that built the interstate highway system.

If i were going Xcountry i'd take the plane and rent a car at the other end, i cant imagine what would make me want to take that trip by train.. Also for any trip under 2K miles i'll be taking the car.

The same one we keep hearing is falling apart, underfunded and constantly under construction? No thanks.

Under 2K? Try under 600 miles for me. And even that is too long in a car. If I am headed up to Seattle, I would much rather take a high speed train than drive or fly.
