Why would fining hospitals help anyone. It just takes away the money from the patients. I thought Obamacare was the answer to helping people with their health care. Punishing hospitals for treating sick people is just the opposite.
Sounds like it's fashioned after NCLB..schools get punished and their Fed money is held back if too many kids fail.

I don't see how the hospital will be held responsible if the patient doesn't take their meds or do what the doctor said once they leave and end up back because of something they did or didn't do. Hospital still gets in trouble.

Does nobody read anymore, just knee-jerk responses to the Breitbart article title? From the linked article:

Quote:
Starting Monday, Medicare will fine hospitals that have too many patients readmitted within 30 days of discharge due to complications. The penalties are part of a broader push under President Barack Obama’s health care law to improve quality while also trying to cut costs.
Heaven forbid people try and reduce the incidence of medical complications.

IMO hospitals should just ignore Obamacare. What are they going to do? Shut them down and then what will they do with the sick people? It's all just crazy.

I would believe it was for quality control but Obamacare wants people in and out as fast as possible. It will end up working against itself. They will tell you how long you can stay after a procedure and then you have to get out but what if you aren't ready to go? You will need to come back but the hospital can't readmit you. Crazy.

Hospitals who re-admit patients within 30 days after they were discharged will now have to, under an Obamacare provision, pay fines as of October 1, 2012, which could force hospitals to slash programs that help the elderly, the poor, and the chronically ill.

According to a study, "about two-thirds of the hospitals serving Medicare patients, or some 2,200 facilities, will be hit with penalties averaging around $125,000 per facility this coming year."

No problem.

Like any business, I just pass that cost to the consumer.
As it is, you sign on the dotted line, that you are responsible for what insurance doesn't cover.

That cost +, has already been added to everyone's hospital bill.

You don't really believe that a site called the ReaganCoalition quoting Breibart is credible do you?

You need at least a semi-credible source for this sort of discussion.

And that of course is what we are trying to fix I think.

STop hiding the cost of treating those incapable of paying in the rates charged to others. Cover everybody up front and try and do it as cost effectively as possible.
