Can someone explain to me why people have the right to carry a concealed weapon but not show they have one? Why not carry in open view? What is the logic behind concealing it? Would it be safer if it was in plain view?
What about the old days when people used to wear holsters all in plain view? What if we went back to that?

You can carry "open", and there is no way I would carry open now a days...these idiots would be the first to shoot you...he has a gun shoot him first....then shoot everyone else....
And could you imagine walking through wal-mart with an open weapon....people would fall out screaming he gota gun...he's got a gun....911 would be flooded with calls....
I've never understood that, either. My state just recently went open carry. I'm thrilled, even though I don't have a permit.
And guess what: I haven't seen a single person wearing a gun. Not one. I'm not sure when the new law went into effect, but people didn't suddenly spring from the shrubbery, brandishing their weapons.
The only reason I can think of is to not make people in restaurants and other public places choose to take their business elsewhere because guns make people uncomfortable. It's a mindset coming from not being accustomed to seeing something, I suppose. Like nudity. lol
1) In the event that you are in a scenario where there is a bad guy and the need for a weapon to stop a violent crime, open carry lets the bad guy identify who would be most likely to stop them. It makes the good guy with the gun the first target.
2) Much of the modern public has developed this irrational fear of legal gun ownership. You see it on here...they actually find the gun scary, some even call an inanimate object "evil". As such, the belief is that the general public lacks the maturity or rationality to see legally owned weapons carried by someone without a blue uniform and shiny badge.
There is a lot to be said for more people open carrying legally. Familiarization would help some of the borderline neurotic people realize that neither inanimate objects or legal gun owners are a danger to them. In my county, about 15% of the population has CCWs...open carry would help people realize just how many people are actually carrying.
Not to mention that it offers lots of options for more comfortable holsters.
Because some people would call the police if they saw someone open carrying legally. Because obviously people who have never handled a firearm or understand their purpose for self defense are afraid of them.

you hit the nail on the head. most people get nervous around people who open carry firearms. it is also true that people who open carry firearms become a first target for criminals. on the other hand concealed carry means that most people who are squeamish around openly carried firearms, can fool themselves into thinking no guns are around. and criminals are going to relax a bit around the sight of no obvious weapons.
SOme trigger happy Flatfoot is bound to drop the hammer on you! I carry concealed even though MN has open carry law... The only benifit I see is if you inadverently exposed the weapon you may not get in trouble for it..Harassed by the fuzz, maybe but not charged.....

Because some people freak out when they see someone armed. To prevent an epidemic of soiled trousers and/or undergarments, CCP is preferred.
There is no logic to it. Its called paranoia, and its dangerous.
