"For the first time since 1994, the Violence Against Women Act is no more. It was approved by the Senate in April but now House GOP have blocked the bill.
Proponents of the law hope to revive the law in the new Congress, starting from scratch, but in the meantime, there will be far fewer resources available for state and local governments to combat domestic violence."
Besides, why not just make it a domestic violence piece of legislation that assists ANYONE in an abusive situation?
Why alienate everyone else by making it gender specific?
I think we all know why.
I think it actually does cover both sexes. The House narrowed it down to exclude victims of domestic violence who are gay men, lesbians, American Indians living in reservations, and illegal immigrants.
The majority of victims of domestic violence and crimes like rape are women, but there are men who are affected as well.
There is no need for a special act. The laws are good enough as written. If a man assaults his wife and the wife calls the police, he will be charged with assault. What more is needed? This is ridiculous.

The difference is most men won't report their wives if they hit us. However for some unlucky men, they will get the police called on them in the blink of the eye.

The Violence Against Women laws provide badly needed programs and services, including:
Shelters for victims of domestic violence and their children
Community violence prevention programs
Funding for victim assistance services, like rape crisis centers and hotlines
Legal aid for survivors of violence

I saw that post as women hitting women, men hitting men, and illegal immigrants hitting each other. Maybe we just can't read Democrat laws.
Politics is the reason, pure and simple. Of course, no men are ever beaten by women in the home. Well according to left leaners that is the fact.
No that is not the case. About 3 in 10 women and 1 in 10 men report having been the victim of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner.
Intimate partner violence resulted in 2,340 deaths in 2007, 70 % were females and 30 % were males.
