The OP was asking where are the Republicans are on the west coast.
How far inland would the OP consider the coast ?
It's not easy to answer a sketchy question with a definite answer especially when Republicans in my opinion don't seem to feel the need to glom together, surrounding themselves with other republicans like so many Democrats seem to do.

Yet the OP seems to want to "glom together" with other Republicans if that's the question being asked.

Not on things like cost-of-living, climate, proximity to your work, recreational opportunities, urban vs. rural, etc?
I agree with this statement. While a person may not want to live in an area that is extremist, the factors you mentioned are much more important to consider. I think the absolute most important is cost of living. If you're going to be broke you won't even care too much about the other factors.

Fair question for non-Californians. The state is basically divided along a range of mountains called the Coastal Range. West of the range is the coast, east of the range are the valleys, and the desert. Continuing eastward, you find the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, and then further east the actual mountains of the Sierras. Most of the state east of the coastal mountains is considered to be Republican counties. Although Sacramento, the capital, is about evenly split. San Francisco, the Bay area, Los Angeles, and most coastal areas are considered liberal. San Diego and Orange County, in general, in spite of being coastal, are considered to be Republican because they are very expensive and lots of rich people live there and that's the way many tend to vote. No area of CA is all one way or the other, it's a mix, and a very diverse population with many immigrants, legal or otherwise, throughout our state. And no one group of people is all conservative or all liberal.
There are so many reasons to move to a place, especially in CA, that politics is a strange way to decide, in my opinion. If you are concerned about politics affecting your wallet, California is DEFINITELY not the place for you. Our taxes and cost of living are among the highest in the country.
