"With only a part-time police force, he said, response time is not like it is in a big city."

"Spring City leaders say they got the idea from a city in Georgia that passed a similar law. In 1982, Kennesaw, Ga., made headlines by requiring heads of households to own a gun and ammunition. On its website, Kennesaw boasts that its burglary rate declined after the law took effect."

It's good to see some common sense measures after the tragedy of Sandy Hook.

From what I understand, it took over 20 minutes for police to respond and secure the school...only after the shooter had taken his own life. 20 minutes....what difference does magazine capacity make when a nutcase has 20 minutes with no response? Be thankful he had rifle shooting little varmit bullets instead of a single shot 12 gauge. With that much time and the ranges involved, a shotgun would have been devistating.

Hopefully it will not stop.
I bet crime drops in this town and the publicity will definitely prevent any potential school nutjob shooting wannabe from even thinking about their community - which is the point.

From the Karate Kid, 1984

Daniel: So, karate's fighting. You train to fight.
Miyagi: That what you think?
Daniel: [pondering] No.
Miyagi: Then why train?
Daniel: [thinks] So I won't have to fight.
Miyagi: [laughs] Miyagi have hope for you.

Miyagi has hope for this town in Utah.

Some other kind of criminal?

About 100 yards away we had a cop unload 7 rounds into a guy with some priors. Body in the 7 11 parking lot.
Standing behind the police tape a group of us were chatting about the shooting.
Every single person I talked to from age 18 - 70 said they had a gun or two.
I was surprised, now I'm not.

Nah, I'm sure a vacation to Chicago or St. Louis would be much safer.
