My experience as well. Originally, I supported McCain in 2008. I didn't like Clinton and I didn't know Obama. I supported McCain's failed bid in the 2000 primaries, and I supported him in 2008. It was his supporters that first caught my attention, notably: the woman who called Obama an Ay-rab, and the man who screamed "[Obama is] a terrorist," both at McCain rallies. Then, when he chose Palin, my first question was, "Who the hell is she?" I was still with McCain, but cautious. When she started opening her mouth is when I dumped McCain. I was left with "none of the above" as I was in 2000 as well. ("None of the above" is an actual option on ballots in Nevada.)
I never supported McCain until I heard him say "I'm not George Bush" and the whole "Not on my watch" thing. However, as time progressed, I started not to like McCain, and then I looked up Sarah Palin's record as a governor. I found out she did some bigoted things in Alaska. This totally turned me against McCain. I could have gone either way. However, I started thinking "McCain is an old man. If he dies in office, he'll leave Palin as the President. If she could be that bigoted towards Blacks in Alaska, imagine what she could do to Blacks in this country if left as the President". I did vote for President Obama.
I heard of President Obama when he was a senator, but not much further than that.
Powell should keep his mouth shut....he's ruining the good reputation he used to have.
McCain probably should have muzzled his running mate too, if he would have, things might be different now. But when she opened her mouth and the garbage began to fall out of it, that probably sickened many Americans. I know for awhile I kept a vomit bucket nearby the couch during newscasts because I knew the media was going to put her front and center, still makes me sick to even think about her.
If people saw Powell during the onset of the Iraq war, and they see him now, they pretty much have him figured out now, and what's he got to lose by talking? nothing. People still have the utmost respect for him.

McCain should have chosen Joe Lieberman. Once he picked the Alaskan nitwit, Obama had 2008 won running away.
This is one of the reasons that I believe that the republicans threw that election by nominating her non- experienced dumbazz. I always believed that they really did not want to win the WH because that meant that they would have to fix the mess that bush left and could not blame whatever sacrifices that had to be made on the democrats, plus it is easier to get the stupid to blame the hard choices on the first black(?) president.
Yes, I totally agree with this. From the very instant I saw Sarah Palin, I knew that the Republican party was throwing the election.

Gonna court Godwins Law here, but using the lame ''only some of the party are (racist, RWNJs, fill in the blank...)'' may be technically accurate, but that's still just as disingenuous as saying only ''some'' Germans belonged to the National Socialist German Workers' Party (aka, Nazis).
And since more than half the GOP are still Birthers and over a third believe the POTUS is a muslim, that's a damn sight more than just ''some''! (insert 'eye roll smiley' here...)
