I just don't want the gun mania which has led to so much gun death and gun injury.
great, then you would not mind suggesting to the federal and state governments to give up their firearms 1st before any civilian gives up theirs. right?
Actually, it's the opposite. And you can't deny that there's an excessively caricaturish masculine image for men to live up to in the U.S.? The moment a man is not driving a truck with giant wheels, doesn't have B.O., isn't carrying a gun or boasting about guns, or farting, or burping, or telling stupid sex jokes about women's bodies, or not drinking beer as if he has no liver, isn't watching football like his very survival depends on it, and not acting like an out-of-control old 5-year old, you can bet there will be guys saying the guy gay, wimpy, etc.
Meanwhile, I think behaving that way is just low class.
Another brilliant statement from a gun hater, and now apparently racist....
My father was an accomplished brawler and old time West Side Chicago tough guy whose nickname in the 1930s and 40s was "Slaughter". He never owned a gun. His buddy Tony from across the alley was in the Outfit and was a real tough guy too and he did own a gun but he needed it for work; for being dangerous, not for being tough. There's a difference you see.

no if i were really tough-- bullets would just bounce off me and i would not need weapons, just like you. the internet tough guy never needs weapons. internet tough guys are always martial arts masters.

Why would I do that, when we need a military? The Second Amendment explains that. Back then, we needed a militia, the 2nd Amendment addresses it. But you're expecting me to want guns taken from the military and militias? You're kidding me.
I've seen quite a few people link guns to masculinity and bravery. Are they correlated?
This is a hallmark of the far right. They tend to have a massive macho complex going on. And it's a very stereotypical one - a real man has to drive a real car, shoot the shotgun, keep his woman in line, do the man's work, blah blah. And, of course, everyone who doesn't exactly fit their mold is a girly wimp, and so on. They can't cope well with human differences inherent in a modern world. All in all, very much a black-and-white past-century mentality. They're like bullies on the playground who never grew up. You see evidence of this on the forum all the time.
It is the unarmed that empower the criminal.
Being armed with as knowledge, or skills, or weapons.
The criminal seeks the unarmed stupid distracted , not the alert and skilled and armed .
I suggest you put a sign on your door please ,,"Gun free zone "
