depends on where you live...min wage should never be set federally

and everytime you raise the min wage, you just kill the economy, and the employment rate

part of the 07/08 recession was the raising of the min wage

here is an example of what happened with this last 'raising'

minimum wage is for UNSKILLED

I pay my UNSKILLED laborers (that clean the shop) over $7 an hour, the min wage is $5

an example:

I run a maintenance shop
I have a shop foreman...$23/hr
I have 3 mechanics.......$20/hr
I have a parts manager...$21/hr
I have 2 mechanic helpers...$12
I have 2 parts workers/drivers...$10
I have 2 labors (to clear the shop)....$7 (2 over min)

minimum wage is $5

the 'government' raises the mimunum wage to 7.5

now I HAVE to increase the laborers wage to AT LEAST 7.5.. and he will WANT $9 (2 over min)....but If I give the "unskilled" laborer $9 then the driver (must maintain a clean liciense) will want more (hey boss, I was making $3 more than the unskilled guy) ...as so on, and so on...

thus RAISING THE COSTS of my SERVICE that I provide to the society.....

so either costs will go up....or people will get laid-off......

there should be NO FEDERAL minimum wage

federal min wage should be ZERO

No, you are being willfully ignorant.

The value merits the supply of American engineers. It's a domestic labor market, not international.

How's setting a mandatory minimum wage giving US citizens a right to a job?

It's a miserable proposal that will do no good for the economy. And it was introduced with such a misleading opening statement;
Quote:
But today, a full-time worker making the minimum wage earns $14,500 a year. Even with the tax relief we've put in place, a family with two kids that earns the minimum wage still lives below the poverty line. That's wrong.
What's actually wrong, Mr. President, is the thought that minimum wage jobs are going to be filled by people trying to support a family. These are INTRODUCTORY jobs, jobs that people take when they are first entering the workplace, to gain experience which will lead to better, and higher paying, jobs.

Well your brother's a douchebag. He's the problem.

By the way, engineering jobs are not being outsourced.

My statement that no one has an inherent right to a job was a response to this statement from another person:

Who are you to tell someone that they cannot have a job just because they are not worth the price floor you have set?

good move...hopefully they set it at 12 and make it retro-active for at least 3 years...bring in walmart and all the others books levy fines and do some major scooping....that'll get dollars moving around town...a Co should have to bring the books in to show approval on application for less then 16 re outrageous profit and ripping the world off with mickey mouse pocket change wages. They blew it with tax increase on the rich, most are employers at that scale....all they had to do is lower the rich tax a little and sky rocket min....with exceptions based on start up cost or other slower natured buis on approval.... I wanna bimmer...I wanna boat...I wanna leave my wife and go to the carrib to see all the skinny teenagers, I want a 6000 sfoot house...gimmmee gimmee gimmee
