Now, now - that's not true, is it? Paul Ryan suggested we rely on HSAs, so that was an alternative. Of course, a tax-advantaged savings vehicle for health expenses isn't really very useful if you have no money to put in it. But it was an alternative. Sorta.

Actually the last 5 years have seen smaller increases than the prior 5-it is related to our ever changing consumption/new technology, not an admin. Last 5 US has averaged in the neighborhood of 7% annual hikes, prior 5 had 3 straight years in excess of 10% hikes.

When our daughter resigned from her job to go back to school, we were able to put her on our plan. She'll be on until she turns 26 this July. It is much cheaper for her to be put on our plan than for her to buy a separate policy, which is what she had to do before she got a job.

My now 25 year old niece benefitted from that same change (a very inexpensive one for corps, btw).

There are different amounts of inflation for different goods and services.... How much does your rent go up each year? I'd guess about 1-2%. "Cost of living" increase is normally around 3%. Healthcare is 10%.

Republicans offered NO alternative to the serfdom disaster that was America's healthcare system prior to reform. Even after 2014 this country will STILL have the LEAST government intrusive healthcare system of all developed countries in the world. Unless you were wanting to omit dozens of millions of Americans from recieving healthcare then what more could you ask for?
Funny how you lefties ignore the constitution.

This is going to be really bad.

With only a small part of 'affordable' in effect, and this much rate increase for everyone, how much more rate increase is going to happen when it all comes into effect?

Thankfully I am in the US Navy, otherwise it may have been much worse.

I have a friend who works for the corporation who is making this 'exchange', she is on a team of programmers writing the code. A large portion of that company have been laid-off, as the work load goes to India. She is expecting to be laid-off any week.

By the time the 'exchange' is in operation, it will be entirely managed by India.
