I would prefer to keep him alive and see if he still has the smug look on his face in 25 years.
If the kid lives the average life in prison he'll not only be more hardened, but will cost over $2M in the process. It's a win for the corporate prison system, and a loss for tax payers.
An eye for an eye is the best solution in some cases.
That's a crazy sentence to give any 18 year old. We judge them incapable of making the choice to drink alcohol before 21, but it's cool to send them to prison for life at 18? That's nuts.
His actions in the courtroom are clear demonstrations of mental problems and extreme rebellion against authority. He's obviously very immature. That is exactly a reason to keep him alive and give him a chance to mature. It's not a reason to excuse his crimes, that's not what I'm saying. But it's a reason to not execute him and a reason to not deny him the possibility of parole at some point in the future. The kid is obviously not some hardened criminal. He should be in jail today. Should he be in jail when he's 60? That's an entirely different question, and not one that should be answered today.

what is the point of paying for him for the next 60 years?
Because he may reform. Or he may not. Either way, he's never going to get the chance to be a danger to society again. But if you kill him, he never gets the chance to reform. If he did reform, he may speak to other kids in one of those "scared straight" programs, he may lend his efforts to a youth advocacy program or violence reduction program, he may write books, who knows. See Tookie Williams.

It really doesn't matter how hardened he gets if he isn't getting out. Either way it's the prison system or lawyers that reap the rewards.
Hopefully, somebody in prison will take care of that for us.
What a sick twisted lil punk.
Agreed. Hopefully someone puts this POS down quickly. No reason for the taxpayers to provide him with 3 hots and a cot for the next 70 years.
