my insurance premimum went up about 40%. I dont actually use it because I never reach my 2500$ deductable and its cheaper to pay cash for my bp prescription than if I turn it into the insurance.
the bulk of the law comes into effect next year (2014). That's when, for example, people with pre existing conditions will have access to coverage and coverage standards will be more regulated. Starting jan 1st 20114 everybody can buy coverage through the exchange.
My little brother will be benefitting from it next month. He has severe asthma and need expensive medications or he can't breath. He will be able to stay on our mothers insurance next month after his birthday because of obamacare.

Same here, we are paying for that program, yet people without employer-contribution plans are still
unable to afford it. The money is all going to bureaucracy. Hopefully at least some people that were out of work are now getting paid to shuffle papers so it's not a total loss.

That will be really good!
Everybody who doesn't have any form of insurance (and who is not covered by medicare/medicaid) will have to buy insurance (I understand that there will be assistance available for those who cannot afford to pay.) People will no longer be allowed to say: "I'm young, fit and healthy. I don't want to spend my money on insurance." (And there are people who take that attitude.) If the Insurance companies are going to be obliged to cover everybody, then it's only fair that everybody will be insured.
So with effect from 1 Jan 2014 everybody will be (supposed to be) insured?
And when one of those newly-insured people - one who lives in the middle of nowhere - needs a doctor or medical treatment, who is going to send one to him or her?
There will be - I understand - 30 million new patients.
Who will be responsible if there are insufficient doctors to look after those 30 million new patients?
Has anyone taken advantage of Obamacare or know anyone who has? And how do you?
My adult son was on "Obamacare" for a little over 18 months. He was 26, had just come off my insurance, and had a couple of pre-existing conditions that prevented him from getting coverage. After being turned down by Kaiser, he applied for Cal PCIP (Pre-existing Conditions Insurance Plan) and paid $150 a month for comprehensive coverage ( which, fortunately, he never needed to use).
Now he's covered through his employer's plan, and has dropped out of Obamacare. But, boy were we all glad it was there for him, just in case
(PS- the PCIP plan is available NOW in all 50 states, for those with Pre-existing conditions who can't get insurance. PCIP will phase out in 2014, when it becomes ILLEGAL for an insurance company to deny coverage to people with Pre-existing conditions. Contact your state government for info. The process is quick and easy)
