On this question of politicians' "evolving" views, given that today is Good Friday, perhaps it's worth noting that the Emperor Constantine's views on Christianity "evolved", in all probability because he needed Christians' political support to retain his throne. As a Christian, it doesn't matter how or why Constantine decided to convert the Empire, I'm just glad he did.

Really, a complete non-issue like this that means absolutely NOTHING to 99% of the population is completely gridlocking the government when we have so many more important issues to deal with.

This was the issue the energized young voters to vote in 2012 for Obama in larger numbers than they did in 2008, despite the fact they had student loans and were living at home unemployed. 2012 was the gay marriage election.
