live in the United States for more than half the year
Just to clarify, the new report is referencing the Additional Child Tax Credit, not the earned income credit. Illegals would be unable to claim the credit because you have to have valid SSN for the EIC.
According to this link, one lone tax preparer who prepared fraudulent tax returns considers himself the whistle blower. There does not appear to be much substance to the story according to this:
The video implies that people are receiving refunds of $10,000 or more based on the Additional Child Credit which if you really think about it is nearly impossible. It wouldn't shock me if this was just a sensationalized news piece aimed at attracting ratings.
But the government is allowing it by not checking on the status of the children they are claiming.
I find it interesting that we could not claim our dd (born December 24th) on our tax return because we did not yet have a social security number for her yet someone who is here illegally (why aren't they being arrested as soon as they file that tax return for being here illegally?) can claim children who have never set foot inside the US and get $11K "back" from the government. How stupid is our government?

I am having a hard time wrapping my head around an employer deducting taxes from an undocumented worker's payroll check and then the undocumented worker hiring a tax preparer to file income taxes and the preparer participating in a fraud.

Like I posted earlier, if you really stop and analyze this claim you would realize that more than likely it's total B.S.
