A non-partisan commission report out today says the US engaged in unprecedented torture since 9/11 and that it yielded little of value while diminishing our reputation in the world as well as exposing our forces to similar treatment. This was no liberal witch hunt, but a true, impartial investigation. Is it time to try Bush and his minions for war crimes? If not, now, then when?

You'd think even the NYT would get tired of bleating out the same old editorial year after year. Especially after yesterday. Hopefully they saved a few buckets of water for the Boston Bomber(s).

I was forced to watch MSNBC for three hours... I told them everything just to get them to stop.

It was not an editorial, it was a news story about a non-partisan study that was released today.

Yes, the sad fact is the same conservatives who yell about being afraid of an ever growing government supported the government torturing people. They supported the government locking people up in Gitmo/guantanemo indefinitely without trial or hearing.

They supported the creation of homeland security and warrantless wiretapes and on and on.

This is the lesson that needs to be learned from 9/11 not to allow the government to do the stuff the GWB administration did in order to fight terrorism.

The sadder thing is that since Obama continued Bush's polices, very few people from either party are protesting these practices. In fact, see the NDAA executive order, which Obama signed twice.

This is not true. Many of the same people who were against the expansion of power of the executive branch to fight terrorism are still against that expansion.

This is why if someone is serious about ending this expansion, then they call for an end to the Patriot Act which the conservatives loved, they call for an end to the dumb idea of using the military to fight terrorism in a perpetual war, which the conservatives championed.

I know conservatives want to re-write history on their support for these horrible ideas, but they pushed and supported them and are largely responsible for their continued existence.

President Obama is to blame for his drone policy, no doubt, but the reality is that once you give a branch of the government expanded powers as the conservatives pushed with the Patriot Act, whenever you say go ahead and torture people which the conservatives supported, whenever you say we need to basically fight pre-emptive wars and a perpetual war on terror all of which the conservatives supported, then conservatives have zero room to say anything.

In fact, conservatives still want to continue the war on terror, they still want to continue the Patriot Act, they are still in favor of preemptive war, they are still in favor of torture, they are still in favor of warrantless wiretaps, I mean the only hope for civil liberties are liberals and democrats because conservatives are in the tank for violating everything in the name of fighting terrorism.

Yeah dude, you can re-write history as much as you like but Democrats support the Patriot Act and perpetual war at least as much as Republicans. Probably more so.
