"Carla Hale of Powell, who worked at Bishop Watterson High School in Clintonville for 19 years, said she was fired in March after an anonymous parent complained that an obituary for Hale’s mother listed the name of Hale’s female domestic partner...her March 28 dismissal notice refers specifically to her relationship as the basis for her termination."
Do I think it's morally right? No. Would I do it? No. But she works for a religious school, which comes with certain expectations of acceptable behavior by employees from the employer. What she is doing is against their religion. Right or wrong, many of the parents send their kids to that particular school in order avoid people in situations like hers.

So the school is living by the dictates of its owner and sponsor, which makes no bones about how it views homosexuality. What is hilarious to me are all the broad-minded, live-and-let-live types who give money and time to this repressive anachronism without acknowledging the nature of the policies they are supporting with their donations.

Right or wrong? The school was wrong. Ms. Hale did not do anything illegal or inappropriate. She was just listed as a mourner in an obituary, along with her partner.
Has a familar ring to it..remember the single woman who became pregnant and got fired from a Catholic school ?
If they signed a contract regarding the beliefs of the Catholic Church and to uphold them then they don't have a leg to stand on.
A private religious school has just as much rights as a public school.
And usually following the teachings of the religion are stipulated in their contracts.
If she is gay and the school does not permit gays to be teachers and that is part of the understanding and contract, then why would she teach there. She was living a lie.
I agree that a private, religious school certainly has the right to only have teachers that agree to conform to the principles of said school.
That said, this is rather an odd case. So: an anonymous person informs the school of the obituary in question. The Administrators and principle call in the female teacher in question, who has taught at the school for nineteen years, and asks her:
Principle: "Is it true that you live with, and love, another human being lacking male genitalia?"
Teacher: "Yes".
Principle: "In the Name of Jesus, begone!"
I was glad to read that the students are protesting the termination. I also thought it interesting that the teacher in question is a Methodist, teaching in a Catholic school. You would think the Catholic Administrators would demand that only Catholic teachers be hired.

I agree, but take that logic a bit further...What other transgressions are people being fired for?
Would it be OK to fire a teacher because it was found out that she had an abortion prior to working at the school? Is firing for divorced because of adultry acceptable? Are these questions even asked of perspective employees?
Should the school have the right to ask a perspective employee if the use oral or external contraception?

I support the right for gays to marry. I quickly dismissed the argument that tried to link pedophilia with gay marriage. That said, personal opinions don't hold much sway here.
A public school can fire a teacher for not leaving their personal life at the front doors of the school. We recently had an example of a teacher that was fired for giving a student a bible. People don't want to understand that our rights go both ways.
That our rights allow for things you might find distasteful but the alternative IMO is even more distasteful. This will be allowed to stand.
