A larger amount of SNAP dollars received in the
previous month is associated with significantly
lower BMI and waist circumference among women re
porting SNAP benefit levels, according to a
study that used 2005-2006 national survey data and controlled for education, age, and race.

Food insecurity is significantly related to in
creased BMI among North Carolina women receiving
less than $150 in SNAP benefits per househol
d member, but not related among those women
receiving at least $150 in benefits.
59
In addition, the mean BMI of women receiving at least $150 in
benefits per household member is significantly
lower than the mean BMI of women receiving less
than $150 in benefits. These findings “suggest that
the provision of adequate SNAP benefits per
household member might partially ameliorate the
negative effects of food insecurity on BMI

It was an interesting graph and study. I was flabbergasted, but pleased, that as humans- we all tend to spend our grocery money in almost the same percentages according to the different food groups! I did not expect to see that. Learn something new every day.

There are too many takers (on both sides) and not enough people to support the taking. I do agree but Obama keeps giving the gifts to both sides.

I don't know how long you have been an observer of American politics but as far as I know the truth of the two parties is that they're BOTH on the side of corporate America and therefore not the "people". This back and forth between the advocates of the business party, (made up of Dems and Pubs) is the one thing that these two parties have going for them. It's street theatre for the most part, vote for one and you get laws favoring the rich, vote for the other one and get the same treatment. One large and looming truth to the welfare myth is that no one seems to notice that most of those dollars are going straight into the tills of the likes of Walmart.............Now, who's on welfare?

Oh you are forgetting one very important group, Obama wants bigger government. Who's on welfare? Are you denying that there are not people who are perfectly capable of working, living off the labor of others, low class welfare recipients.

Here are some facts:

Map of which states have the lowest welfare rate as a percentage of population (lowest = 1st place) to states with the highest welfare participation rate as a percentage of population (50 = highest).

Finally, we can consider food stamps (SNAP) which technically isn't welfare as it isn't run by the department of health and human services and instead is run by the department of agriculture under the farm subsidy program. Here is a graph with the percentage of population receiving food stamps by state.

Hopefully these facts will help produce more knowledgable discussion on this topic instead of the usual demagoguery.
What are the statistics for people on disability? Add that to your numbers.

Since Obama took office 5.4 million went on disability.

Petch has the habit of doing that. BTW, as previously linked, 86% of people on food stamps have a job and so are the working poor.

Talk about the easy life
For my family of 4 that would equal $1,000 per month. I coupon and diligently shop sales. I spend far less than $1K a month and am able to feed my family well. No soda, $3.69 gal of milk, fresh (and some frozen) veggies, fresh fruit, lean meats, starches, whole grain breads and cereals. I buy roasts on sale and freeze them. We have fresh seafood on Fridays. It can be done, but it involves work.

A local dollar store accepts Food Stamps. Their freezers and refridgerators are stocked with processed foods which are easy, minimal prep and fast to serve. A tray of processed mashed potatoes is more expensive than the slightly time consuming home made mashed.

According to page 12 of this report from the Food and Nutrition Service only 13%-14% of people who receive food stamps are unemployed and ~86% of recipients are actually the working poor. Not surprisingly Petch is wrong when he claims they're all bums who just don't want to work as well over 4/5ths of them do have jobs and do work.

But, I guess, he has been honest that he doesn't care about facts and instead just has a massive, irrational hatred for anyone who is poor. Especially since, as was shown in the opening post, most of the people are only on these programs for a few years to help them get back on their feet and then they no longer require assistance.
Yes. Shocking, indeed. petch is wrong about something!

This is how we can all know you are a hypocritical, delusional partisan hack.

Let's swap this statement around:

The point is republicans and neocons don't like it when someone says something they "claim" is not true yet they themselves have beliefs about other Americans and (directly promoted by (insert GOP politician of your choice)) that are not true.

See? Replace the lefty boogeymen with rightwing boogeymen and you have a statement that is 100% as equally valid and accurtate as th4e drivel petch posted. Which is to say, not very valid or accurate at all. Again, not surprising in the least.

You are wrong. No one gets $1000 a month for four people and instead they get an average of $134 for adults and $65 for children so assuming two adults and two child that would be $338 which is far less than your claimed $1000 per month. You could educate yourself by reading some of the links in the OP.
