After Detroit's parasitic Liberal Democrat locusts plundered the city, yes, now perhaps. But such is their nature; the eventual bankruptcy outcome has been pretty much a given for decades now. It was just a matter of when, not if.
All Detroit needs is a conservative in charge to make order out of chaos.
Amazing how conservatives are great for rebuilding the mess that liberals foul up.
Yup the same happened in NYC.
Liberals made a mess of the place in the 70s and 80s, the city nearly went bankrupt, social chaos took over in the name of political correctness and everything was in the red.
The people had had enough...Giuliani was elected and he pretty much cleaned that mess up in a decade. Bloomberg was then elected and he carried the torch. Now it's a thriving metropolis and the safest 'big city' in the US
The only difference in Detroit and the U.S. is that Bernanke can turn on the printing presses. Both parties spend money that they do not make sure are paid for. We can argue all day who is the biggest offender here but the solution is to stop it.

The fact that the U.S. controls it's own currency and can deficit spend and increase or decrease the money supply is an advantage not a handicap. It provides the ability to cool off inflationary periods and fill demand in recessionary periods.

You false credit Giuliani for NYC's comeback. Giulianists also give him credit for reducing crime too. When one actually looks at the figures what we find is that crime was already falling in NYC before he was elected and nearly everywhere else in the country crime was also falling.
NYC's economic comeback was due to the Wall Street and real estate boom during the mid-1980s and the 1990s -- since the financial and real estate sectors are a huge part of the local economy. It merely was coincidental that Giuliani was mayor. According to Wiki: "One of Giuliani's three major campaign promises was to fix public schools. However, he cut the public school budget in New York City by $2 billion from 1994 to 1997 and trimmed the school repairs budget by $4.7 billion, and test scores declined during his terms."
