He was telling CRIMINALS to hit 8 Mile. He didn't care who they where. He was telling criminals to leave.
I grew up hearing that quote wrong and never looked it up. Thank you for correcting me.

Funny they stop the Bankruptcy. What happens when the bank account hits zero ?

No one gets paid at that point whether you're bankrupt or not.

I wonder if this would have happened if archer stayed in office for 20 yrs. he seemed to be getting things turned around after young was out.
Folklore. The decline of the white population in Detroit began in the 50s and did not accelerate after 1967.

The overall population decline was over 25% since 2000. That is well after 1967.

Whites and the well off began abandoning Detroit in the 50s and continue to do so to this day. The city now is black and poor. And that is not recoverable.

Can't afford to bulldoze it. No money. The accounts went below zero years ago. There is still however cash flow.

Remove and recycle the buildings - build a small town- think of it as down sizing..I find it worrisome that 40% of Detroit's street lights do not work- what happens when it gets down to 2% then zero? The only real problem here is criminality and the maintenance of the old and vulnerable...These are the things that have to be addressed- the economic bird has flown...what is left must be reformed into something that mirrors civilization. Detroit might just be a nice prototype of what is to come...Better make the place livable.

That's about the only thing I could support the Federal Govt getting involved with. It might actually create some jobs in the area.

Worst thing would be to just give them money.

It's going to become (may already be) one large Section 8 housing project.

At some point, you have to realize that due to past management and current politics, nobody really cares about that chithole called Detroit. They need to handle it like adults that learned their lessons, or close up shop. There are so many reasons that people moved away from a city that was determined to pillage their successful citizens to fund a backroom operation of greed and political graft and corruption.

So please, don't embarrass yourselves by decrying conservatism or Republicans in general. Detroit was always a prime example of what not to do, and they need to atone for their own sins.
Mostly unmitigated nonsense. Detroit has been just about wiped out by economic reversals that deal with the auto industry and white flight. That has left a city without the necessary resources to support itself. It is now black and poor. And Michigan would just like to ignore it.

The most sensible way to fix it would be to create Detroit the city...the three major counties as a single municipality. Provide state assistance to get rid of the legacy portions and sufficient tax authority to provide a functional budget.

That however would involve associating the white suburbs with black Detroit.. Ain't gonna happen.
