Wouldnt the government need access to the records, in order to store them?

In my opinion, the NSA has been doing exactly what they were tasked with doing, ever since the 80s.

If they did any less, people would scream that they were failing to do their job.

Among my roles on submarines I have been a SIGINT customer.
People don't get the option to cheer or jeer the NSA because no one knows what they're doing until there's a leak.

We all know what they do, it is their Mission Statement.

Ridiculous statement. The sheer nature of their job ENSURES that we don't know what they're doing. That's why this leak matters so much. And that's why your President is Lying to you.

So far, no liberals have been brave enough to show up on this thread and defend the President's blatant lie to the American people. Could it be because they know its true and its simply too outrageous to defend the indefensible?

They spy.

Here.

"... Collect (including through clandestine means), process, analyze, produce, and disseminate signals intelligence information and data ..."

Secretly.

"... to support national and departmental missions; ..."

To supply all other government agencies with data.

"... Prescribe security regulations covering operating practices ..."

Make up all of their own regulations.

That is what they do. They explained it in their Mission Statement.

Your reliance on their mission statement to appease your apathy is beyond farcical.

I think Snowden has made clear that Barack Obama is a liar of epic proportions.
