Well then if its "only a word" then why not let EVERYONE use it? It doesn't have any power behind it, right? So it shouldn't really matter who says it and to whom they say it, right?

I am beyond tired of the ignorance of certain Black people playing the asinine "we can say it, they can't" game.

So which non-Blacks are on the OK-to-N****a List? Mexicans? Puerto Ricans? Cubanos? Samoans? Native Americans? Filipinos? Jewish? Scandinavians? Non-blacks married to/dating Black folks? White men named Bob? White women named Becky?

Obviously anyone with the legal name of Bubba gets a free pass.

No long ago my friend had a coworker (Latina) who used the n word in her Facebook regularly among friends. My friend warned her to be careful about using the word because it was inappropriate and she was friend with her coworkers and management team on Facebook. Well she got mad, de friended my friend. And another one of their colleagues started ignoring my friend. All over the n word......

definitely not the Beckies, though there are plenty of bm who wouldn't mind.

This is all par for the course. Evidently that Latina was "allowed" to use the N-word at some point by some uninformed Black folk. But let non-Hispanics start calling that individual by all of the racial epithets reserved for Hispanics and watch the Latin pride rise up.

Don Lemon recently did a show about the n-word a few days ago.

I can't find a link to the full show, but I did find a thoughtful comment on the topic by Winston Marsalis.

Muscian Wynton Marsalis and Michael Skolnik discuss the use of the N-Word by Hip Hop artists

At the movies or in the check out line. When sitting at a red light. In the doctors office. When school teachers are confronted for trying to discipline ones child.

Seriously? Your comments really illustrate how out of touch we are with how hurtful it is. Are you seriously advocating that teachers refer to parents they don't agree with as "n's"

Not all parents. Not the real citizens. Just certain ones.
