So I have a friend of mine that uses this word in a racist way constantly, and I confronted him on it last night at a BBQ. I was surprised to find that I wasn't the only one that stepped forward on the issue once the ball was rolling. The thing is, several of my friends including myself use the word in a joking way mainly because of pop culture. when one of my white or Latino friends sends me a text message that says " what's going on %$^#&% I really don't put much thought into it, but listening to this particular friend talk about black people using the N word in a negative way really has turned me off to using the word in a joking way, especially after confronting him on it.

Very, even when black people use it. The kids/teenagers use it all the time with each other (white kids) and it seems to be no big deal. That is in the deep south.

I think this subject has already been posted on so you may get a complaint about it from the complaint police.....lol.

It offends me because I was raised with the idea that it's not a word you can use -- like the "f" word or "b" words that were off limits. Here where I live, you hear the "n" word being used quite frequently, for some reason many of the hispanic kids will call each other the "n" word supposedly in fun but I hear it being used to refer to blacks also -- ironically by the same hispanics who would scream if they got called the "w" word.

The word "en" is allowed in Scrabble.

No one seems offended when Harrier uses it on a triple word score play.

If we are discussing another particular word, yes that is highly offensive, and ought not be used - period.

Harrier would have to question the sanity of anyone who seriously felt otherwise.

To whom it may concern...Black people addressing other black people with that word doesn`t justify your racism in any way.I grew up in a neighborhood of eastern european immigrant folks and we often called each other hunky but we didn`t care to hear that from the kids on the other side of town.

Not at all.

There are many, many very decent black people that I know.

However, ALL of the music that they tend to like use that word consistently.

If they demand that their music stars stop using the word, I'll then find the use of it offensive.

Default how much does the N word offend you?

Depends on how it's used, by whom and for what purpose.

I've used it to denote a person (any color) at the bottom of any hierarchy, being abused.

I always try to stand aside from archies, and take an orthogonal view and position.
