Eight people were shot -- one fatally -- in a drive-by shooting in which two men fired on a group of people at a home in the Lawndale neighborhood Saturday evening, authorities said.
At least one of the shooters used a rifle and casings were recovered at the scene, police said.
At least 67 people have been shot across the city since Wednesday afternoon this long holiday weekend, 11 fatally.
In Saturday evening's shooting, four people in serious-to-critical condition and one person in fair-to-serious condition were taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, while one person in serious-to-critical and one person in fair-to-serious condition were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, according to the Chicago Fire Department's media office.
One victim, a 49-year-old man, was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was identified as Terry Patterson; his home address was not available. He had been taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound the groin, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss said.
Lawndale is a dangerous neighborhood, the problem is most of these murders happen in a select few neighborhoods, which has been stated over and over here. The reason why Chicago isn't more aggressive with this problem is because it only effects a few neighborhoods while the rest of the city is safe.
However, I do think Chicago should be much more aggressive towards crime and murder in those select neighborhoods to help improve the living conditions throughout the city.
There is a similar neighborhood in Baltimore... The police only go in during the day and collect the bodies.... They avoid it like the plague at night...
Black on black crime- nobody cares, least of all the media and Al Sharpton.
Treating gang members like terrorists sounds like a good idea. That's exactly what they are, local neighborhood terrorists who make it impossible for law abiding citizens to live a normal life without living in fear.
nobody would watch, only reason people express fake concern is because Obama is from there, otherwise they don't care about the ghettos in Chicago
MLK spoke about this same neighborhood 50 years ago, when was the last time anyone on here read a book or saw a documentary about the neighborhood????
Anyone, anyone, anyone????
Vice (HBO show) was there this year. It's basically a shoot-first warzone between gangs where bystanders get caught in the crossfire on a regular basis, and city politicians blame the lax gun laws throughout the state and region, but really there are no easy answers. The country has enjoyed basically unlimited gun sales & ownership for decades now with no end in sight, so areas like the south & west ghetto areas of Chicago and tragedies like Sandy Hook will become more and more part of our American way of life.
