That's probably true. But do you understand why?

Because social scientists have documented for over a century the bias that occurs when people try to identify persons of a different race or ethnicity.

I don't usually cite wikipedia, but this particular article has a long and credible list of cites that accompany it.

Are you trying to say that the left is exclusively made up of white males?

I doubt they would have helped anyway simply because they're putting them on American buses. Put them on buses in the Middle East and the FBI might actually make some progress.

Pictures don't lie. It is what it is. If that offends, so be it. Reality has a habit of doing so.

Thank you, but what I was saying is that we live in a society where persons of Middle Eastern descent are not perceived as individuals but instead lumped together into a indistinguishable hodgepodge. And when that hodgepodge is labeled "terrorist", we can fall victim to thinking all Middle Eastern people are potential terrorists. Which, in fact, is amply demonstrated by the anti-Islam threads that abound on this forum. And that can and does lead to discrimination and violence against Middle Eastern people, or even people who aren't Middle Eastern, but who are darker complected. As a society, we are far better at distinguishing the individual characteristics of white people. And studies have shown, this is across the board. Minorities, including black people, Hispanic people, Asian people and Middle Eastern people, are better at identifying and distinguishing white people than of other cross-races or cross-ethnicities. Some studies have posited that this is because American society is such a visual society and our media/entertainment mediums are dominated by white people, so people of other races and ethnicities learn more about distinguishing white features and individual characteristics, whereas white people don't get that practice in a more general way. However, white people that live in more diverse environments, or who work with minorities, or who simply have more experiences with minorities, have better success at cross-identification. It's one of the benefits of diversity.

So you think it's ok to put the pictures on the bus but only other middle eastern folks can look at em? lol

Maybe just put silhouettes on the bus?? That way nobody will be offended.

Have you seen this person. He is wanted for killing twenty people in a terrorist attack..........

I think that it's okay to put pictures on the bus and in the post office and even to run them on the news. I think it's important when doing so to point out distinguishing characteristics, like tattoos, or bad teeth, moles, scars and so on. Pointing these things out addresses the failure of people to make such distinctions across races in general. It becomes problematic when distinguishing characteristics aren't pointed out, because of the cross-race and cross-ethnicity identification issues, which are well-known to people in law enforcement and other disciplines, but aren't as understood in the general population. Because some of the cross-race identification failures lead to fear, violence, discrimination, and so on. Since we know there are problems with cross-race identification, we can take measures to address the issues. To pretend that there aren't issues, when for the past century we've scientifically established that there are issues, doesn't make sense.

Well I've never seen "issues" prior to putting up some pictures of muslims.
