In a free country, you are allowed to get out of your car and follow someone. Why do you keep forgetting that.

sayin things like, "well how was a homeowner supposed to know if he was armed or not or a kid or not in the dark" is absurd
so if ur not sure of someth, shootin at it is the best possible solution?, he was in a ****in yard, not even inside the shooter's home, he wasnt posing a threat of death or great bodily harm, u cant jus say u "thought" he mighta had a gun cuz that can be said towards anyone u see outside late at night, how bout calling the police instead of playing judge, jury and executioner
dumb ****in inbreds

He was sure it was 2am. He was sure that this kid had just broken into his fenced, locked yard.

He was not sure if he was going to break into the house. He was not sure if he was armed. He was not sure how long it would take the cops to arrive.

I will never get the mentality that a person protecting their family is scum, but the thug with a record, breaking and entering, is an angel.

I'm not going to feel too bad for the kid as bad things tend to happen when you are doing bad things. That being said, shooting a kid in your backyard is just a bit over the top. Let the kid know you have a gun or call the cops first. ****ing loon.

why is it acceptable that trespassing be punishable by death? is this Afghanistan or someth?
u dont get death sentence for trespassing if police catch u so why should average citizens have the right to sentence and execute?

People, all people, have the right to defend themselves and their property. In LA you have to wait until someone breaks in to defend yourself, but in other states like TX, IL, CT, GA you don't have to wait. It's not that hard to teach someone that burglary is wrong. Also, it's not true that cops can't shoot you for trespassing, they can if you are on certain government property or at a nuclear power plant.
