It's the question of the century: who killed the 35th president? Was it Lee Harvey Oswald, or was it a conspiracy?
Lee Harvey Oswald was never convicted for the murder, he didn't even make it to the trial: shouldn't he then be treated with less "suspicion", and his guilt be more doubted? Why is it considered to be a conspiracy-theory if you don't believe he did it, when it was never made sure it was him?

There is an ocean deep pile of theories about who killed John F. Kennedy, and we may never find out who really did it for sure. But what's your opinion? Was Lee Harvey Oswald the real killer, or was he just the scape goat? Who might have done it in your opinion and why? The government or an organisation of some kind?

I am writing an essay about this in History/Swedish in school, and would appreciate your opinion in this matter.
Thank you!

He was certainly easily led. He could have easily been influenced by others. But whether or not he did it on his own or if someone planted the idea in his mind, we'll never know.

I personally think that if it were a plot by others, they would have chosen a spot that had a much surer chance of 100% success. A moving car with not a great chance of a clear shot (too many people around) doesn't seem like a smart move to me.

Oswald was a little cretin- who had no agenda but to find a place in history.

Sweden, good luck with the paper!

In addition to all the other theories if you check the internet you'll find that one of the conspiracy theories was the Cubans were involved. You might check out the name, Senator Rolando Masferrer.

Rolando Masferrer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interestingly, this former Cuban government official also had close ties to one of our sacred cow political parties.

Take a look at the books Deep Politics by Peter Dale Scott and Ultimate Sacrifice by Waldron and Hartmann. The former uses the Kennedy Assassination as an entree into developing the hypothesis that American history is driven more by operations of clandestine organizations and individual and organizational corruption than is typically addressed by conventional histories (drug trafficking figures prominently).

The murder of Oswald by Jack Ruby (captured on news footage for anyone today to see) was basically the obvious clue that this was an organized job. There is no thinking person who would expect the Warren Commission to have investigated, not to mention implicate, the FBI and CIA regarding the assassination.

About Deep Politics:
//
From Library Journal
Over the past 30 years, more than 2000 books about the Kennedy assassination have been published. While [Gerald] Posner [Case Closed] and Scott come to different conclusions, their studies are important additions to the field. Providing a detailed account of Oswald's life from childhood on, Posner shows him to have been a psychologically disturbed malcontent who was unhappy with both the U.S. and Soviet political systems. Posner counters claims of the major conspiracy theorists point by point and backs up his arguments with documentary evidence, recent interviews, and up-to-date computer analysis. Faulting conspiracy theorists for equating coincidence as evidence, Posner concludes that there was no other gunman and no conspiracy. Scott, a Berkeley English professor, approaches the assassination in its sociopolitical context, focusing on why it happened rather than on who did it. The phrase "deep politics" refers to the secret networks operating within and outside government agencies. While they do not constitute a unified shadow government, they comprise a coalition of individuals who cooperate in order to maintain the status quo. Accordingly, Scott examines Ruby's links with organized crime, army intelligence and JFK's planned withdrawal from Vietnam, J. Edgar Hoover's misuse of his authority, and the collusion of international drug traffickers with the CIA and FBI. Scott believes that Oswald and Ruby were part of this convoluted network. Both these titles offer important insights and are highly recommended for most libraries. Case Closed was previewed in Prepub Alert, LJ 5/15/93.

About Ultimate Sacrifice:
//
From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. There has been a long hiatus in significant books on the JFK assassination since Gerald Posner's Case Closed argued in 1993 that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Posner took the CIA's lack of involvement for granted, and that, according to this mammoth and painstakingly researched account, was a big mistake. It is Waldron and Hartmann's (The Edison Gene) contention—bolstered by access to many previously unavailable files, and interviews with little-known as well as prominent figures—that the CIA knew a great deal about the assassination. But the agency couldn't admit what it knew because that could uncover the existence of a U.S. plan for a coup in Cuba, run by JFK's brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy. The assassination, say the authors, was carried out by hired gunmen on the orders of three noted Mafia dons whose lives were being made miserable by RFK's ruthless pursuit—and these Mafia men knew about the planned invasion because they had worked with the CIA on previous efforts to topple Castro. Oswald, long a hidden CIA agent, was set up as the patsy, and it had always been Jack Ruby's job to eliminate him if he wasn't killed at the scene of Kennedy's shooting. How do the authors make their case? With a relentless accumulation of detail, a very thorough knowledge of every political and forensic detail and the broad perspective of historians rather than assassination theorists. They spend perhaps too much time with people they admire, like the late Enrique Ruiz Williams, who was a crucial early source for them. They also cannot resist chasing stories of only marginal relevance to their principal one, like what really happened to Che Guevara in Cuba. But no future historian of that tormented period in American history will be able to ignore their very convincing presentation, even if a lay reader may feel overwhelmed by the sheer weight of the evidence. ...

[Reader comment]
Ultimate Sacrifice is a quantum leap toward uncovering what happened prior to and on Nov. 22, 1963. The reasearch done by Waldron over the last 17 years, especially after the release of documents precipitated by the movie JFK in 1992, is thorough and convincing. Waldron interviewed many of the participants and spent days pouring over newspaper microfiche in his effort to uncover the truth.

Waldron presents information in easy to follow pieces, developing a clear and convincing argument for involvement of the CIA with the Mafia in a program that Bobby Kennedy, representing JFK, had ordered stopped. I am left with the awareness of a renegade CIA refusing to follow orders from the President himself.

What impressed me is the message I perceived from Waldron's nonjudgmental reporting, that the Kennedy brothers truly cared about what happened to the Cubans and wanted them to have a fair and democratic government.

Ultimate Sacrifice is well documented and well indexed. I appreciate the attention to detail that went into its production.

I recommend this book for anyone who is interested in a close look at the inner workings of government and a clear understanding of how things can go wrong even with the motive is pure.
