I've moved a lot as a military spouse. Move up to what? I've been a content area lead many times and well as grade level chair. I've done multiple other things too but my primary job was to teach. There are only so many leadership positions in a school. You want to keep experienced teachers in the classroom because it is in the best interest of the students so, yes, you have to give more money as teachers gain experience. The same thing happens in factories.

No- teachers are not over paid.

My daughter teaches 30k/yr no union. No big pay raise projected. That for 6 yrs of college is pitiful. And she is trusted with molding future citizens/children. Think pay too low. Worked for many yrs w high risk population in Detroit. Still no money vs risk. Imho.

and those things lead to raises. let's not forget about the pension plan.

Just because other professions pay less, doesn't mean that those teachers are overpaid. According to your logic, because of the many other professions in the D.C. area that pay much more, teachers in Montgomery County are underpaid.

See how that works?

If that's true, and I certainly can't deny that it is, but IF it is, then why do you care so much about what other people are doing?
The comment that I replied to had you whining about lunch breaks. You hadn't had a lunch break in ten years, and before that it was unpaid. My point was if you aren't happy with your own job don't complain about what other people have, go get your own, bucko!

so you admit you've moved around quite a bit, and you have changed jobs several times? yet you are unhappy making about $35 an hour?

yep, 20 years ago when my brother started working for IBM out of college, he was paid $80,000 plus bonuses to start.

dont ever become a mechanic then, you will spend about $75,000 on tools and tool boxes to hold them, and you will be constantly buying new tools either to replace old ones that wear out or break, and the newest specialty tools, to the tune of another $10,000 per year. and that is just the basic tools you will need to start getting jobs done. if you want to get good, and make it easier on you, you will spend about double the numbers i quoted.
agreed...my tools alone would cost 80k to replace

um, is this a joke? $48k=$48k-$96k. two incomes=household.
