Libertarians want all members of society to have abundant opportunities to achieve economic success. A free and competitive market allocates resources in the most efficient manner. Each person has the right to offer goods and services to others on the free market. The only proper role of government in the economic realm is to protect property rights, adjudicate disputes, and provide a legal framework in which voluntary trade is protected. All efforts by government to redistribute wealth, or to control or manage trade, are improper in a free society.
Well most people have a warped sense of what the Libertarian Party is due to the (so called Libertarian Republicans) who pick and choose small bits of the platform and claim they are Libertarian. What you end up with is a morphed politician that sounds bat**** crazy. A true Libertarian would NEVER join the Dem or Rep parties. Most of the Libertarian platform sounds nothing like what is heard from a politicians mouth in Washington.

I think you were right earlier, that before anyone attacks the Libertarian platform, they really need to read it!

But, can one run on total Libertarian values platform and call themselves either Republican or Democrat and win? I can name a few, that have been/are, representatives and Senators.

There is a good reason, there is only 2 parties to choose from that get all the attention and money.
Ron Paul explains it the best and why he chose the Republican party, to push the libertarian values.

There are homes still being lived in, that were build 150-200 years ago.
Well before building codes came into existence.

It is those not still standing and fell while someone occupied it, that they either bought or built what they did, as is.

Ron Paul may push some of the values, but certainly does not follow the entire platform, no current members do that. They pick and choose which items fit their agenda.

There is no such thing as a true libertarian. Just because some libertarians got together and formed a libertarian party does not mean they become the sole arbiters of what is and isn't libertarian.

Ah-ha!

You mean individuals win unrigged elections, not the party.....
