The Internet has changed the world as information is now much easier to disseminate and as a consequence governments are using draconian measures to maintain their control. Before the proliferation of the World Wide Web the flow of information could be controlled by paying off a few key gatekeepers but now that everyone has the potential of becoming a citizen reporter with a worldwide audience that strategy is no longer viable.

The US was not founded on the principles of a police state. We should never compromise our principles to turn into something we fought against throughout time whether it was fighting the Nazis in WWII, or dealing with Communism during the Cold War.
