David in Deming NM was pulled over for not making a full stop at a stop sign. The cops claim that when he got out of his car he was clenching his butt cheeks suspiciously. When he wouldn't consent to a body search they got a court order. The local hospital refused to comply so they drove 60 miles to a regional hospital in a different county - where the court order was not valid. David was subjected to xrays, finger probes, 3 enemas and then sedated for a colonoscopy. No drugs were found. David is suing the city, the police, and the hospital.
Note: the hospital is billing David for the procedures and threatening him with legal action if he doesn't pay.
New Mexican law enforcement has really made a really strong turn into becoming stormtroopers in the last decade. The stretch of I-10 between Las Cruces and Lordsburg/Road Forks (which includes Deming) has become a state trooper playground. I go through there every few weeks and you can feel the tension.
It's a poor state, and they're after all the revenue they can get their hands on. It used to be a cool ass state and I still love visiting, but the law enforcement apparatus, local AND state is out of control. I realized that when I got in a shouting match with a local up in Las Lunas that was being an a-hole just for the hell of it when he could've dealt with me in a more professional manner.

I always watch my speed on the I-10 through Deming, it's a revenue generator for the county.
The doctors should be in more trouble than the cops. The order was invalid in their county and the local doctor who refused (kudos to him) proves that they were not obligated to comply.
Would a "I want to talk to my lawyer" at any point have stopped this?
