Because the people in politics are the elitists, above they law, above any normal scrutiny like the rest of us lowly members of the masses.
What freaking scrutiny do you come under?
You want to buy a gun your name and SSN is queried, if your name doesn't come up as a convicted felony you are good to go!
Now I am no lover of the "elites" but please tell me the last time a normal Joe, or Jane such as yourself had photographers and reporters following you around, searching Lexis for anything and everything that has ever been written or said about you or that you have yourself written or read?
Even by C-D standards this is a incredibly stupid thread.
I'll bite, and I cannot stand The current President. But they do go through the most in depth check of all time! The Media!!! People are trying to dig up every bit of dirt they can on politicians!!!
Not when they fully support and cheer him. They blatantly ignored his very questionable history while giving him standing ovations at his campaign rallies.
Questionable history; how many other people running for POTUS lived under different names, was adopted by a foreign national and lived in that country, and served in a state legislature voting "present" more often than yeah or nay combined?
I've thought about something similar to that before. When I was married, my sister-in-law was an office worker at the FBI building. What she did day to day was no different than what millions of other office workers do in thousands of other offices. But because it was the FBI building, she had to have security clearance.
I understand the logic behind it and I agree with it. But still it's a little weird to think of the idea that there are titans of international industry who have less security clearance than the janitor who empties the trashcans, if the building those trashcans are located in happens to be the Pentagon.

The thread isn't about who voters choose to vote for or what information they find important but the inane argument that politicians aren't "vetted" which is absurd by any standard.

He took the last name of his stepfather when his mother was married to him. Oh no the horror.
