In this economy many have poor credit because of job loss/decreased income and can't keep up the debt payments. They are looking for a job to get out of this hole but are caught in this no-job-if-you-have-bad-credit Catch 22.
I've always thought it was messed up that your credit could disqualify you from a job. There is a bit of a difference between someone that loses everything in a recession and someone that spends irresponsibly, but I'm not confident that employers make the distinction.
It just seems like a vicious cycle imo and I'm not confident that employers discern between someone that suffered under an economic meltdown and someone that spends irresponsibly. I'm not even sure there is a correlation between job performance and personal spending habits, though I can se the concern if the position is sensitive.
You're unemployed? We don't want you.
You couldn't pay your bills after you were laid off? We don't want you.
Your house was foreclosed on after you lost your job? We don't want you.
You went bankrupt after your company went out of business? We don't want you.
I want warren to step up and be the first one to hire someone off the street....no background check, no credit check, to be her housekeeper.
You can bet your life that the millionaire socialist has anyone who comes near her or her property 100% scrutinized before they can even apply to work for her.
But again, "Socialism is for the people, not the socialists."
A credit check is not the same as a background check.

Actually it is because entities needs your legal permission to pull your credit.
I suspect many applicants do not read the fine print on job applications.
