Because when we kicked the English out we were smart enough to know that we didn't want kings or any other ties to the English government.

But we have ties to the English government now. They are the closest ally on the planet of the United States. We trade security data between the countries. Both nations have each other's foreign nationals listed as "low risk" for purposes of obtaining visas.

Have you ever been to the UK? There are monuments to the United States all over the place. St. Peter's Cathedral has an area dedicated to the Americans who lost their lives in defense of the UK. Westminster Abbey has a monument to the ambassador from the US to the Court of St. James during WWI, stating he was a friend to Britain in her sorest time of need.

Watch this poor quality video to what occurred at Buckingham Palace on 9/12/2001

9/11 American National Anthem Buckingham Palace - YouTube

Another filled with Londoners honoring the victims of 9/11 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5vGho1fEw4

I've seen statues to Ronald Reagan, Victims of 9/11, Gen. Eisenhower all in London. Scotland also celebrates the Scots to moved to the U.S.

RUNRIG - DANCE CALLED AMERICA - IMMIGRANTS ARRIVE IN NEW YORK - USA - YouTube

The UK is our ally and friend.

The UK, Canada, and other member states wouldn't want the US in the Commonwealth. What's the point?

Truthfully, now I know this may hurt to hear but ... well, you all like your huge lawns so much and the Brits really didn't have the time nor the energy to mow them ... so they went home and left you to your own devices, which in retrospect probably wasn't the best decision but you have to live with it ... not them

We would not stop being the United States nor would any government member of the commonwealth hold any sway over the laws or lawmaking of the United States. If anything, its more like a global chamber of commerce of former British colonies mixed with a marketing and tourism bureau.
Interesting how Australia and NZ have free immigration between them, may be it is time to invite the Canadians to join in.
Nope not the UK while EU citizens have the right to work and settle in Britain with no check on their ability to speak English.

The U.S. already has a similarly defacto policy with citizens of Mexico.

While us Canucks who snowbird and spend money down there for around 6 months of every year appreciate the free testicular check up and review of our financial and security stability we are given every time we present ourselves at your border, it would seem you reserve your "c'mon in y'all" concierge service for Mexicans only.

So what would be the point?

Why would the U S want to pay homage to the UK's fake ass monarchy?
