i travel 15 miles to visit a TJs occasionally, but have no desire whatsoever to live there.
Because it will increase the visibility of their neighborhood to a population of people who have been known to move in and take over when they covet a particular city.
So? Gentrifiers, especially younger generational professional ones, are increasingly a diverse bunch. I'm actually all for gentrification. It is sad that people get priced out of where they live, but it's also sad when people who live somewhere watch their neighborhood they love DEVOLVE in property values when people move in that no longer care for an area.
Would you similarly shed tears for people who would be upset that a certain type of store would attract black folks into their neighborhood, and they are afraid blacks would "take over" their neighborhood, so they worked to keep that store out?

Any majority-black area that peaks the interest of white people is doomed to then become a predominately white (and overpriced) neighborhood. TJ's is a trendy place to buy groceries, but many white folks love it and will flock to the area in droves, displacing the residents of the neighborhoods.
A TJs alone is not going to pique the interest of hipsters unless you also open vintage clothing stores, bicycle stores or coffee joints.

It's some variation of a discussion black people have with their children to tell them how bad white people are and how white people cannot be trusted. Many Black children are taught at an early age that white people are just bad. So what do we get? A monolith who feels perpetually "oppressed" because that's what they were taught at an early age.

The Trader Joe's outrage is just an offshoot of this disease plaguing Black America. It's a problem of their own making that they'll never be able to shake as long as "The Talk" is woven into their social and cultural fabric.

The idea that you think black people sit around and teach their children about evil white people is laughable. My parents taught me no such thing, but I will say that it's pretty easy to see the destruction and disease that has been caused through the actions of past sadistic people. It's called History 101.
So black people would rather live in a crappy neighborhood instead of a thriving growing diverse neighborhood because it will keep white people away.
If black people worked hard to actually purchase the low priced home that they live in they would make money hand over fist if gentrification occurs.
