The damage being done to science by fundamentalist Christians in the US is appalling...They use medication, eat foods and take advantage of all sorts of products that came about by understanding evolution, yet they have the gall to deny the science in favor of 2000 year old mythology....

I believe what the Bible says, but it does not say anything about 6000 years. It does not say God created earth on day 1. It says He creates earth and heavens "in the beginning" and then it goes on to say what He created on days 1-6, but obviously earth already existed on day-1.

It says he created every living thing in the days of the Genesis creation, the fossil evidence shows that simple life forms predate more complex in the geologic column and that the much older by millions of years are stone fossils not bone as something 6k years old would be, not stone. To believe the bible as inerrant is nothing but a fools errand. You will look as dumb in a very shot time as the early Christian leaders who killed if Science who said we live in a heliocentric system. The church and religion has always stunted the progress of humanity. Christianity has done nothing for human advancements, no religion has, to keep us in the dark and feed us crap, they are good at that.
The mountain of evidence of species that have evolved isolated and independent from each other not only rip apart the stupid Noah myth, but the Geologic column shows that simple life forms are in the most early strata and above are more and more complex life forms. The Christians look for answers that fit a pre conceived idea not the truth. Science will throw out old ideas or modify them as new knowledge comes into focus. Christians are stuck in a self-serving cycle of bible proves god, god proves bible idiotic thinking. They are dumber than a bag of hammers.
