So this nut got a gun permit? This is why the entire issue needs a fresh look. Who needs a gun and exactly what did the creators of the Constitution intend with the 2nd amendment? This is a different world than it was all those years ago.

Another Constitutional scholar.

The purpose of the 2nd is for the snowplow driver to protect himself when someone like that psycho loses it.

Because making that little slip of paper harder to get is going to keep crimes from happening.

What you want is a full scale disarmament of the America. Just admit it, because that is the only thing that is going to get you want you want.

Move back to the UK Piers you'll be happier.

Wouldn't you as a responsible gun owner rather not see crazy people armed?

He did have a conceal carry permit. He just didn't keep it concealed enough.
What a wacko...shooting at the snowplow guy gets the streets plowed faster.

He would have made more sense shooting at the snowbank.

I would like to see a reformation of the mental health care industry, and then we could have a discussion about how to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill.

Studies show that criminal misuse of guns is far greater among police officers than among CCW permit holders, contrary to your premise.

With a baseball bat?
With a knife
With a gun
With a bomb?
With a police force?
With a drone?
With a military?
With a nuke?

Stop me when you believe we can get beyond crazy people having access to anything with which they can harm you.

Your bifurcated question notwithstanding I am not for limiting anyones personal freedom to protect themselves and their friends and family.

As a responsible gun owner, I would not trade civil rights for a small security.

Even when an FBI background check denies a felon from buying a gun, less then 1% of these felons ever hear a knock on their door for trying to break the law.

ok so when the guy applied for the concealed carry permit what in his background would have prevented him from getting the permit? had he been adjudicated mentally defective? did he have a criminal record? if the answer to these questions is no, and he passed the necessary requirements, then how can you prevent him from getting the CCW permit legally?
