It probably would have been better received if she had planned something more substantially bridge-building than one token meeting with Peng Liyuan...and if she had taken at least one or two journalists with her, and more importantly, if she had taken some time to visit the American community in China...

Since she was already going to Xi'an, where US company Freescale Semiconductor has a facility, and since that company just had a tragedy of their employees lost on the flight from Malaysia, a brief stop in to express condolences to their employees might have been a thoughtful thing to do.

I just see wasted opportunity here.

The so-called "taxpayer uproar"--invisible to anyone who isn't wearing the magic goggles apparently handed out to Washington Times reporters--is a figment of Sun Myung Moon's imagination.

Good job following your marching orders, Grets!

Typical of liberal politicians, who have different "rules" for themselves and the "little people". I guess this is why Marx was not opposed to the concept of monarchies and "elitist rule" over the proliteriat.

Obama KNOWS how this looks and obviously does not care.

Thank you, Jack. I read the article, too, but found no mention of taxpayer uproar.

Also, I will not respond to anybody who disrespects the office of the Presidency by using insulting terms for the President.

yeah, I saw this this morning and thought to myself, the state this country is in, this woman has no class what so ever? To continually vacation like this on the tax payers money is an atrocity...with no shame what so ever? It is constant and ya want to talk about entitlement? Geeeeze?

This woman is beyond any embarrassment.

Well since she, her family and entourage of 70 are meeting the First Lady of China it's not really a "personal vacation".

As of July 2013, Mrs. Obama had racked up 72 days of overseas travel. Laura Bush had 212 days of overseas travel during Gomer`s 2 terms. You were saying?

One meeting, no press - this is a giant vacation.

Sickening when millions of Americans are losing their healthcare, their jobs and can only dream of having a few days off, let alone an all-expenses paid vacation with 70 family and friends.

Did Laura Bush ban the press from her trips? If we're paying for it, I expect we have access to the trip.
