Yeah it does. Let's hear all the bitter RWNJs whine about Michelle improving relations with the Chinese. How can they twist this?
"The China News Service described the First Lady as “Mrs. Diplomatic,” saying her visit could usher in a creative form of “soft adjustment” in Sino-U.S. ties, while the official Xinhua news agency described the visit as “an unprecedented and historical moment in the chapter of China-U.S. relations."
update: Taxpayer uproar has been contained • seems to be isolated to 1 angry cd thread
oh the uproar! The uproar!
lol,
WWWAAAHHHH!!!
Wait, how much was that room per night?
my panties are in a bunch...big time
she could stay at a Comfort Inn for goodness sakes? (eyeroll)
she'd get a free breakfast
Wait,
I don't think they give free breakfasts at Comfort Inns, do they?
How bout a Holiday Inn Express?
This goodwill trip "trend" started with Jackie Kennedy and every first lady that followed had that "trend" available to them. Hillary enjoyed her share of "goodwill" trips. There was a big stink coming from taxpayers about Laura Bush abusing the trend. You are either too young to know this or choose not to remember it.
It doesn't matter who took these trips or where they went or what excuse was given to justify them, the government should limit these trips and should be justified and the entourage that accompanies the First Lady should be restricted where extended family and friends are part of it, and what purpose the "goodwill trip" serves, and not with some frivolous excuse such as using it for "educational and cultural" purposes and denying the press access.
Constantly vacationing? Please. The constant we're dealing with is the constant griping about our presidents' vacations. Who took more days off, Bush or Obama? Which first lady flew more? Childish nonsense.

ummmm, are we forgetting, they have two more years to go, or so?

Watch the uptick on "goodwill trips" in the next 3 years. When the First Lady comes calling countries are pretty much obliged to accommodate the request. They may as well get what they can get out of the government because when out of office it will be early retirement and obscurity for them and I highly doubt they will be globe trotting at their own expense. There may be that occasional guest speaker for Obama paid for by people who think he actually has something to say.
I think they should do what Bush did. He went back to the ranch and enjoyed his privacy. The Obamas can live on a beach in Hawaii never to be heard from again.
