The IMF is ordering the new Ukranian government to raise gas prices by 50%. The west wants their share of the looting that goes on there, so will turn thhe country into a shell. They'll sell off anything of value to foreigners.
Putin will get it back when they're done looting.
The prices are being raised to pay for Russian gas. The Ukrainian government previously subsidized gas to keep civil order and themselves in power. The practice is unsustainable in the long run. They simply can’t afford it. The strategy is to fix the balance of payments, but the West doesn’t stand to benefit and is hardly looting the country.

The Ukraine owes Russia over $2 billion.
The Ukraine owes China $3 billion.
The Ukraine went on a borrowing binge and now has no money to pay back the loans.

Exactly—which is why austerity is necessary and the subsidies need to be ended. However, it’s absurd to accuse the West of “looting” Ukraine by eliminating the subsidies to pay back Russia. If anything Russia should thank the West for getting their money back for them. Then again, as far a Russia is concerned it’s about prestige, power and influence—not money.
There are people afraid to reveal Putin's intentions since so many news reporters have been killed during Putin's reign over Russia.
