Only 7 don't tax labor
Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming.
2 only tax dividend and interest income.
New Hampshire & Tennessee.

I find this counter productive and amounting to being a slave of the state, if I want to feed my family and survive.

How can it be, those states without a state income tax, are economically better off, with rainyday funds in the coffers, than those with States that feel they need all the income they can get, to make crony deals to their buddies.

Alaska has so much extra cash on hand, they pay their citizens every year.

Is it because they are a socialist paradise that taxes the removal of a state owned commodity and disperses that money to residents. Or is it because they get back nearly $2 for every $1 they send to the federal government? Maybe both?

Florida makes up for the no tax with a tax on a license plate tax of $500 for each plate on your vehicles. Governor Christ put that one into play..

They say you own the plate. A farce.
But if you leave for six months and garage your car, you must have insurance on it or surrender your $500 plate. Then buy another $500 plate next year. How is that for legislation to pick your pocket.

Also a new mandatory tax on your home and property in Florida to fund the fire department. A new tax this year put into effect to pick the pockets of the people. Tax tax tax.. robbing the people.

Many of those "income tax" states are losing retirees at an astonishing rate!
Once people are no longer tied down by a job and children, they start looking for a more tax advantageous state to register as their domicile or state of residence.
South Dakota is one of the primary states for such a use. There are many South Dakota "residents" (vehicles registered there, drivers license from there, registered to vote there) who rarely enter the state!
Texas is another one.
Many people who go that route have a "home address" that is actually a mail forwarding service. Their actual "home" is their Recreational Vehicle.
It is a shame, IMO, that taxes can and do run people away from the state where they spent their entire life up until retirement.
But, it is happening!

Alaska is the most socialist state in the union. A little dingbat is partially responsible for that.

What $500plate are you referring to? I have never had to pay that and have lived here for decades. Is it because the vehicle was purchased out of state?

My annual plate decal fees are to the County and cost about $50-60 per year depending on the vehicle.

Florida can thank Disney and the Tourist trade in general for lack of state income tax.

The idea then, in a state that taxes income (a form of slavery), is to minimize the labor necessary to sustain oneself. Labor the bare minimum. Do not feed the beast. It works well on a personal level if you don't believe others should reap the rewards of your expended labor and you don't mind living a minimalist lifestyle.

I agree with do not feed the beast.

However, we don't live a minimalist lifestyle at all.
